The disciplines of philosophy constitute an integral part
of the liberal arts core. Each discipline correlates with
other parts of the curriculum.
Courses in philosophy acquaint students with problems concerning
reasoning, knowing, and valuing. Investigating these philosophical
problems develops perceptive reading, rigorous thinking,
and clear expression. The cycle of courses in the history
of philosophy promotes an understanding of the origin and
development of various philosophical positions and their
role in the genesis of contemporary culture. The courses
dealing with specific philosophical issues often relate
directly to other disciplines. A philosophy major is an
excellent preparation for a variety of career paths such
as law school.
